March Book

"That being said, I won't be able to host unless you guys want to read the Screwtape Letters (it's actually really short, only 127 pages in my copy) really fast and have the meeting during the second week of March (maybe the 10th?). If that's too crazy, please feel free to replace me."

So we will be having an early book club in March. Holly Decker is doing April and here is what she has to say:

"so... i have been thinking long and hard about what book to do this month for book club, because even though i REALLY wanted to read Gone with the Wind, its obviously too long for us to read in a month.

"but i found another book that i would love to read, and i hope all of us will enjoy reading it this month! its called MARIA, MY OWN STORY, BY MARIA VON TRAPP (1972).
i am a big fan of Sound of Music, and i seriously want to read this book to get to know the real Maria better. i figure that most of us have watched the Sound of Music, and that we can all enjoy reading about it this month. EVERYONE is invited to join us!

"i don't own a copy or know how many the library has, but when i do get the book i will try to read it quickly so that someone else can borrow it when i am done.
btw- beware that there are lots of versions and biographies of Maria Von Trapp- so be sure that you get the one i listed above which is written by Maria herself. (but you know, if you end up getting a different one, perhaps you can enlighten us with your knowledge on her from whatever you did read... so no big deal).

Okay friends, here is the tentative reading schedule for 2011. The month indicates when book club will be held. You will have to read the book before we meet. The hostess will chose the actual date of the book club as it gets closer.

June- The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter (Serena Cofer)

July- The Red Tent by Anita Diamant (Sylvia Green)

August- Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl (Stephanie Ellsworth)

September- The Magnificent Ambersons by Booth Tarkington (Georgia B.)

October- The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman (a kind volunteer)

November- TBA (Sherry Murray)

A Solitary Blue

Hey, quick reminder to all that book club is coming up this week, and will be hosted by Sylvia Green.  Here's what she has to say:


This month I am hosting the Book Club, and the Book is A Solitary Blue by Cynthia Voigt. The date will be Thursday, September 23 at 8:30. I know we typically do the meeting on Tuesdays, but I am currently attending a birthing class till 8:30 on Tuesdays. NO I AM NOT PREGNANT! It is for my doulaing! Oh I live at 267 S 400 W. First and foremost I hope y'all can all come over and have a little fun chat time. Second I hope you read the book, and at the very least think it is okay:)

Ok, so I received the official word from Jeanne--the Tarzan discussion night will be this upcoming Tuesday, Sept. 7th at 8:00 pm at her home.  Also, she wanted me to let you all know that (in her own words) "There are a whole bunch of Tarzan movies on instant play at Netflix, ranging from good to very bad if anyone wants to brush up on cultural rip-offs..."  So... enjoy, and definitely come join us on Tuesday for a good discussion.  I look forward to seeing you all there!

So, while we wait for Jeanne to come on board with this new blog, we can at least post a "Save the Date" announcement. The next book group gathering will take place next Tuesday (September 7th) at Jeanne's house unless she tells us otherwise. I'm guessing the usual time, but... what is the usual time? Anyway, stand by for ape-man action.

Hey ladies.  After the point was raised this morning about book club not being Church sponsored, I thought I'd just start a blog here so we can all keep up on what the reading is, and when book club will be held.  I'd love more authors, so if you're a member of the club, just let me know, and I'll add you here.  Thanks, and happy reading.  :)
